Motion System Variants
The following are BOM pages for different versions of parts of the motion system.
Each one contains a set of compatible parts.
Parts taken from different may be incompatible if one of them changed between versions.
The current version page points to a complete and updated set of the pages below.
v3.2
- Current implementation.
Parts:
- X axis: 3.2-x_axis
- Y axis: 3.2-y_axis
- Z axis: 3.2-z_axis
Changes:
- Previous Y axis: 3.2-y_axis-rod5
- Uses a 5 mm rod and 16T pulleys for transmission between the left and right side pulleys of the Y-axis, instead of an 8mm rod and 20T pulleys.
Upgrades
It is possible to upgrade the Z-axis of the 3.2 version to Hall-effect endstops, and a nicer Z-axis, only if your X-axis carriage is variant CAR-X-v1.4C (from the FreeCAD model).
The upgrade is undocumented, here are the overall steps:
- Place the original part on a CNC mill, and make only the modifications needed to match
CAR-X-v1.4C-HE-Z, the new version. You can also try doing this with hand tools, which may turn out to be simpler. - Print the three remaining parts for the Z-axis from AS-CAR-X-v1.1-Zv2.FCStd.
- Install the Hall-effect endstops, and the magnets needed for these to work.
The CAR-X-v1.4D-rev2 model can also be upgraded, but we have not implemented it yet (please ask for it if you need it).
v3.3
- In development.
Parts:
- X axis: 3.3-x_axis-he
- Z axis: 3.3-z_axis-he
- Y axis: no changes from version 3.2.
Changes:
- Hall-effect end-stops for the X and Z axes.
- Simpler X-axis belt tensioning.
- GT2 belt replacement in the tool-changer, moved to steel wire.
